Ophthalmology Services: Why Choose Cleveland Clinic London?

Eye problems can strike any one of us and for lots of reasons. Many might seem minor — dry eye or redness — but some might be from something more serious like an injury or an infection. In any case, the eye consultants and medical experts at the Rapid Access and Urgent Care Clinic at Cleveland Clinic are here to help you and your eyes get the right care.

The clinic is delivered by Moorfields Private consultants, who are specialists in emergency eye care. Located at our Moorgate Outpatient Centre, it represents a collaboration between Cleveland Clinic London and Moorfields Private Eye Hospital. We offer same and next day appointments for urgent eye conditions right in the heart of the City of London — expert eyecare now in the heart of the City for your convenience.

Even if your eye condition is not an emergency, but you’d like to be seen as quickly as possible, we offer fast access to diagnosis and treatment for eye problems, such as an unexplained sudden change in your vision, trauma or a suspected infection, or eye discomfort such as dry eye, pain, redness or swelling.

Common eye conditions and injuries treated at the Clinic

There are many different diseases and conditions that can affect your eyes. Some may require a hospital visit or surgery, but others can be addressed first — or even entirely — by our expert providers in the Rapid Access and Urgent Care Clinic.

Some of the conditions we often treat at our clinic include:

Note: If you have certain diagnosed conditions, including double vision, retinal detachments or retinal tears, you may need to book an appointment with the relevant specialist consultant to ensure the most appropriate treatment.

The Rapid Access and Urgent Care Clinic is for adults only. Urgent paediatric cases should be directed to a specialist paediatric consultant or to Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust’s A&E service.

What to expect when you visit the Rapid Access and Urgent Care Clinic

Even after you’ve made the decision to get the care you need, you may still have questions and concerns. We understand that, and can put your mind at ease. Our Cleveland Clinic London experts and Moorfields Private consultants are here to support you as we deliver the right care. You’ll always be at the centre of everything we do.

Your appointment details

When you come to our clinic, we want to examine you — but we also want to hear your story. We want to take the time to listen to you as a key part of your care.

Here’s what you can expect during your visit:

  • When you first arrive, a specialist ophthalmic nurse will perform a visual acuity check. This test checks your vision and provides vital information about your eye health to the consultant. The pressure in your eyes will also be checked. These tests are included in the cost of your Rapid Access and Urgent Care appointment.
  • The consultant will then take a medical history and examine you. At this point, if required, the consultant may request further tests that would be carried out by the nursing team at your appointment. There is an additional charge for these tests.
  • You will then be provided with a diagnosis, treatment recommendations and prescriptions as needed. The consultant will go over appropriate follow up care with you.

Some follow up appointments will happen in the Rapid Access and Urgent Care Clinic. Other follow up appointments may take place at another Moorfields Private’s location.

Taking the Next Step

So now you’ve taken that first, key step toward getting your eyes back in good order. And we’re right here to help you, whether it turns out to be a minor matter or a more serious situation. Our trusted experts are here to address your concerns and offer highly personalised treatments to get your sight back on track — and get you back to doing the things you love.
